NFDA Special Bulletin: July 20, 2017

Today, Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced The Burial Rights for America’s Veterans’ Efforts (BRAVE) Act, a companion bill to an identically named bill (H.R. 1212) that was introduced in the House by Representative Duncan Hunter (R-CA) earlier this year.

The BRAVE Act will improve benefits for veterans who meet eligibility requirement; ensure all non-service connected veteran deaths are treated equally, regardless of where a veteran dies; and index benefits for inflation, alleviating the need for further adjustments from Congress.

NEW: Have the Talk of a Lifetime Marketing Materials

FAMIC has developed three new tools to help you spread the Have the Talk of a Lifetime message in your community. These tools were created to help you engage with potential client families and urge them to visit your funeral home. All of these tools are available on If you have questions on how to get access to these materials please email

  • Customizable Postcard: The postcard is a very versatile tool. Download it and add your business’ contact information and any other pertinent relevant information (e.g., the services you offer, invite your community to an event, etc.) Let your community know that you are the best local resource when it comes to planning meaningful funerals.
  • Planning Checklist: This checklist is designed to get consumers thinking about pre-planning funeral services. Consumers are directed to fill out the checklist and then speak to a local funeral director about how they can plan a meaningful funeral.
  • Activity Guide: The newest guide from Have the Talk of a Lifetime is a fun one! Full of activities that ultimately get families having the Talk of a Lifetime, this guide is very interactive. It includes cutouts and sections to jot down important memories. Add your firm’s logo on the guide and share it with your community (e.g., make copies available in your funeral home, post it to your firm’s website, hand out at events, and distribute them at local community centers).
